Shipwreck Point was settled in 1930. The place is below the Windandtide neighborhood near Picnic Point and was originally owned by the Merrill and Ring Lumber Company. At the beginning, the residence was a tent. Eventually, the first room of their house was added, constructed from a dismantled pump house carried from Everett on a flatbed truck to Picnic Point and then towed by water on log “floats.” Additions were made during the Depression years, including a kitchen table, claw foot tub, and stairs and a stair railing salvaged from a ferry. Their chicken coop was once the wheelhouse of a tugboat!

Ships, mostly worn out sailing vessels that were taking up valuable space at Seattle’s docks, were towed in to be burned so the iron could be salvaged. A large winch was installed in 1941-42 to make it easier to bring in the boats for burning. At least 26 sizeable ships were salvaged there during this period. The quite visible shipwreck that is still there (see it on Google Earth) is the Pacific Queen, a minesweeper that was built during WWII, but never saw action because the war ended before the ship was completed.

Long walks on the beach. Hunting for and gathering seashells, beach agates, driftwood, ship artifacts, and other wonderful treasures we find on our long walks along the shoreline.
Campfires on cool evenings, popping popcorn on an open fire, enjoying smores and telling stories.
Playing soccer with my Catahoula Hound Dog is a blast. She just loves it and is quite good at it. She could compete with the Seattle Sounders, at least get the soccer ball away from them!.
Taking pictures of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the Olympic Mountaiins, ships that pass bye, and many other wonderful happings. Family dinners on the cabin deck with lots of great food, favorite beverages, kids playing, and guests and company.

These are just of the few types of wildlife that we enjoy at Shipwreck Point.
Every year brings new wildlife babies and new critters. We of course enjoy the native silver and pink salmon that we can fish for right off the fron of the beach!

The Catahoula originated in North Central Louisiana in the geographic area around the Catahoula Lake from which it got its name.
The word Catahoula is of Choctaw Indian origin and is translated into English as "sacred lake", just as the Choctaw word Choekahoula means "sacred home."
Other names for the breed are the Catahoula Leopard Dog, Catahoula Cur, and Catahoula Hound.

Lux loves to play soccer at the beach and she can play for hours which keeps me in shape.
We take daily walks and meet up on play dates with her boyfriend, a Rottweiler / Golden Lab mix named King..
Lux loves to go to the local parks and hunt squirrels. Catahoula Hounds are known to climb trees and when she was younger, I saw her go after a unsuspecting squirrel right up a tree!

If lux had her way we would never come home from the beach. She loves to camp over teh weekends in the spring and summer times.
Lux is not much of a swimmer but she does like to chase the Canadian Geese into the Puget Sound and make them fly.
On small screens (max 600 pixels) it automatically resizes to full screen width.
