I made this website for my final project for my CIS241 Web Development class. Please feel free to look around.

My name is Lucas Whittall. I am recently new to the web developing field. I have enjoyed learning about the different languages it has to offer. I try to keep up on the latest tech related news and gadgets. I have three sisters and no pets. Outside of the web world, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. I am an avid Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners fan. I enjoy all type of racing events and particurally follow F1, and WRC and RallyCross events. Networking and exploring opportunities has allowed me some experiences that I will never forget. Its important to establish a connection with everyone because you never know what can happen in the future. Both of my college expierences have been beneifical to me as an indivdual because of my perservance and drive to take advatange of every opportunity. In the end of my college career, I hope to land a career in web development field designing websites for future startups and fortune 500 companies. I believe its important to set high goals in life because without trying you never know how you will get.

Reflections

What did I learn about Web Developing?

I learned a lot about developing web pages. Everything from basic structure down to adding style and content to make it appealing to the web visitor. Some of the main highlights that I learned were:

Learning about W3C and its recommendation for industry standards.

Building document structure

Linking web pages and understanding the difference between absolute and relative links.

Backward compatibility with older web browsers (XHTML-HTML)

Document Type Definitions (Transitional, Strict and Frameset).

Inserting images, creating lists and forms.

Things I need to work on:

While creating website was a complete new experience for me, I do have to acknowledge that I was met with some challenges that put me to the test when creating this website. Those challenges consist of:

Code readability for myself and debugging
A better understanding of tables and frames
Colors, themes, fonts and alignment for external style sheet(s) (CSS)
(DIV), (Span) and (ID) selectors.

Final Thought:

I really did enjoy making this website. I know I can improve a lot more with more practice. I have found that this was a really fun class and I learned quite a bit about designing and developing web pages throughout this quarter. I am excited to move on to learn more about CSS and other design elements to enchance my creativity and overall look. Teaching support was great and I enjoyed the class discussions as they provided me input on how others were doing and their thoughts and opinions. The class articles were also helpful as there were tips and reminders on how a website is designed thoughtfully.
