A ruby is pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a varitey of mineral corundum. The rub is considered one of the four precious stones, together with the sapphire, the emerald, and the diamond. The brightest and most valuable "red" called blood-red, commands a large premium over the other rubies of similar quality. All natural rubies have imperfections in tehm, including color impuritites and inclusions of rutile needles know as "silk"
